Noah's Ark of Hope reaches fundraising goal
MERIDEN - Noah's Ark of Hope, a local non-profit foundation, has raised the funds needed to pay for a new playground at Hubbard Park.
Thanks to a steady stream of fundraising efforts over the fall, the foundation has raised about $175,000.

"We are completely surprised and so grateful for everyone. Personally, I thought it would be a struggle to get to $100,000," said Chris Bourdon, one of the founders of the group and the city recreation director.

Bourdon and his wife Sarah started the foundation in the wake of the tragic death of their year old son Noah in August. On Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, Noah while playing, accidentally fell from a playscape at Baldwin Pond, struck his head and died from his injuries.

Bourdon said the foundation decided this week that any money raised beyond the $175,000 would be put aside for future projects in the city. Board members have different ideas on the group's next project, but they are agreed on one point - the emphasis would remain on providing recreation opportunities for Meriden's children.
